Technical Department

The Technical Department of the Economic, Technical and Operational Organization (HUN-REN BRC ETOO) consists of 16-person technical staff with extensive professional knowledge and experience.

Our department has two main tasks:

on the one hand, we are responsible for the continuous and smooth operation of the institution. Our Technical Department runs a 24-hour duty system, which means that a technician is always available at the institution to provide immediate assistance in the event of emergencies (leaks, burst pipes, fires, etc.) or defects, ensuring the continuous and safe work of researchers and other employees.

• The duty service is also responsible for the air-conditioning of the premises, providing the necessary heating and cooling according to the season, the weather conditions, as well as the often changing, sometimes extreme, conditions in the different laboratories to meet the research objectives.

• In addition to the duty service, the employees of our department repair and maintain the infrastructure and equipment of the institution.

• Plumbers and pipe fitters play an important role in the maintenance of the institution's water and sewerage systems. They ensure the proper drinking water supply and the efficient operation of the sewerage system, which is essential for daily work and the proper functioning of laboratories and offices. The institution has a central gas, distilled water and compressed air supply system, as well as a glycol cooling system operated and maintained by our department, and we carry out the maintenance and repair of the heating and cooling piping systems at the premises.

• Electricians are responsible for maintaining and repairing the institution’s electrical systems. The uninterrupted availability of electricity is essential to keep the instruments operating and research works running without interruption.

• Mechanical and electrical technicians are responsible for the maintenance and repair of research equipment and laboratory instruments to ensure their proper and accurate operation and long life.

• Our painter division keeps the façades, walls and painted surfaces of buildings in good order, to comply with the aesthetic and hygiene requirements of the institution and to create a positive working environment.

• The carpentry division takes care of the maintenance and repair of the wooden structures of buildings (doors, windows, counters, other structures), as well as of the special equipment and furniture used in the laboratories of the HUN-REN BRC, ensuring their preservation and safe use.

On the other hand, in addition to day-to-day operative tasks (operation, repair, maintenance, troubleshooting), our department is responsible for the technical preparation of renovation and investment works necessary to maintain the research centre at an appropriate technical level and for its development.

Our task is to manage projects from the technical preparation phase to the final acceptance: preparation, coordination, technical supervision and implementation of works. We are actively involved in public procurement projects related to renovation and investment works, their technical preparation, and the preparation of related purchases and orders. Other tasks include communication with authorities, contractors, service providers, and monitoring tenders, orders and work processes.

The work of the Head of Department is assisted by the Head of Unit and the Financial Officer.

They are responsible for the daily management of the technical support and technical service teams. They are responsible for identifying and resolving technical problems and faults reported by the different departments and units, coordinating the necessary repair works and carrying out the related financial and administrative activities.

The Technical Department plays a key role in ensuring the smooth operation of the scientific work at the institution.
