The "Excellent Research Center" qualification of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences was established in 2021 at the suggestion of Tamás Freund, President of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, to recognize the excellence of scientific institutions. Applications received for the call announced by the President of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences will be evaluated based on the following criteria:
The awarding of the qualification is proposed by the Council for the Qualifications of the Research Centers and the Presidium of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences makes a decision. The qualification is valid for 5 years and the acquisition of the qualification is an advantage in the research grants announced by the Hungarian Academy of Sciences.
Of the 114 applications received for the 2021 call, 95 institutions received this recognition, including the Biological Research Centre, Szeged.
The award ceremony took place on May 4 in the Hall of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, at Széchenyi Square. BRC Szeged was represented at the event by László Zimányi, director of the Institute of Biophysics.
