The Young Academy of Europe (YAE) was founded in 2012 and established a partnership with Academia Europaea in the same year. The main aims of YAE include acting as a voice for young researchers by actively reaching out to policymakers and seeking to influence science policy, strengthening networking among young researchers in Europe and fighting for equality, diversity and inclusion in science. Important activities also include mentoring talents and communicating science to the general public. YAE members are outstanding young researchers with recognised excellence in their field, who have already demonstrated leadership abilities and are currently working in the European Union or an associated country.

Imola Wilhelm is the first YAE member from the BRC. Her membership is effective for seven years.
